epitaph

In the Korean War, an airplane
Talons of steel returning from dawn
Missions over forests churning
Men, cursing spitting victims of ideology
Snaps the cable, scalds the tossing deck

Great grey hulk, forcing duty
Sloshing forth incalculable froth
Depths of
Sea, fulfilling, abstracting blue maps
Shudders and heaves, insolent against the rushing wing

Joe lost in lonesome longing
Blistering palms
Once bearing brightly trinket tins
Toys remembered soothing ebony waifs
Hammers chocks and pylons unaware.
