One of the hallmarks of our society is that you prosecute people based on laws they have broken, not laws members of their families have broken. None of this should be revelation -- that a gang-banger would attempt and possibly succeed in molding his son into his likeness. But in America, we don't punish people for their childrens' crimes; stuff like that is left to the Revolutionary Courts in Iran, where a nephew can be sentenced to death for an uncle's usary because the uncle has fled. Tookey is a bad guy, but I still maintain my position based on probabilities. I'd rather pay for Tookey to rot in prison for the rest of his life than to kill him and later learn of his innocence.

It appears that neither Tookie nor his lawyers have been able to prove his "innocence" over the last twenty-four years since his conviction.
There are people who are against the death penalty no matter what, and that's cool if you're pro-life and what-not. Somehow though, I think the Tookie Williams case is a big setback for those who'd like to see the death penalty go away (not that it gets used a lot, it seems). The man is at least partially responsible for thousands of deaths. He was only convicted of four? I think you only need to kill one to qualify.

Smrgol you really need to read Cooley's case against Tookie. The evidence against him is not shaky in the least. That's my interpretation of the 57 page document Cooley presented.

Cobb: I'm pretty sure Tookie's other son is a convicted sex offender, who was recently wanted for kidnapping and forcible rape of a 15 year old. Don't know if they caught him since; it was all over the news (KFI, mostly) while he was at large, then kinda went away.

Uncle: No one argues that Tookie should be executed because of his son's (or, more likely, his sons') viciousness - he should be killed for murdering four innocent people, and for founding a gang that has murdered many more. However, some argue that he should be spared because he supposedly has a great anti-gang message for kids. That this alleged message was lost on his own kids is highly relevant to this supposed defense.

Xrlq, the alleged perp in that rape of a minor two weeks ago is not the son of Tookie, but rather the son of another man by the name of Stanley Williams. The local newspaper that ran the story ran another story later in which the alleged perpetrator's mother stated that Tookie was not his father. The KFI guys get high on their own gas sometimes.

I read Cooley's response to the clemency petition as well. Big Took has another two weeks.

If killing tookie will bring back the four people he was accused of murdering, then it's ok. Will killing tookie make the relatives of the four murdered forget that their folks are dead. I feel that all that wants Tookie dead is because some say he co-founded the Crips, well I don't remember that back in the 70's there where a lot of leaders, crips on the east side, west side, the bloods, and prior to that the slauson's, gangs have been around forever, I don't feel that he is guilty, I do feel that he is innocent of the crimes accused of. I know small things turn into bigger things, but I do not think that he did the crimes. What proof do we have, I read that an informant in prison told on him, I heard that a couple told on him, I heard that a friend of his told on him, He was an easy person to blame the big man they could not get him on anything else so he was blaemed for the crimes. This is my belief and I am entitled to it.

This is crazy. It disgusts me that people think that just because he wrote some children's books and claims to tell kids to stay out of gangs that he shouldn't pay for killing at least 4 people. i dont know how many of you lived in L.A. during the time Williams began the crips and the gangs were in their prime, but i was. the terror that the gangs created in people was and is unreal. when night came if you were not in your home and somewhere near the back of the home you were in danger of being killed. stray bullets and misidenty were ramped. i can not tell you how many innocent young children, women and men were killed. they were killed without remorse. i want someone to ask Williams not if he was given a fair trial, but if he has ever killed anyone or caused someone to be killed by direct order. Williams for thoes who do not know it has been granted a private meeting with the gov. this has never been done in calif. and more information, Williams and the gov. are former friends. the two of them used to lift weights together prior to one of his first movies. infact Williams was to appear in that movie, but was arrested for what he is now serving time for. Williams himself has said,"i can tell you i was nothing nice, i was a very bad person." Williams is not being exicuted for what he has done while behind bars, but what he did prior to being arrested. Williams is being spared of dying the brutal death that he sentenced many other to. justice has been kind to this killer.

It includes: (1) eyewitness testimony of Alfred Coward, who was one of Williams’ accomplices in the 7-Eleven shooting; (2) ballistics evidence proving that the shotgun casing found at the scene of the motel murders was fired from Williams’ shotgun; (3) testimony from Samuel Coleman that Williams confessed that he had robbed and killed some people on Vermont Street (where the motel was located); (4) testimony from James and Esther Garrett that Williams admitted to them that he committed both sets of murders; and (5) testimony from jailhouse informant George Oglesby that Williams confessed to the motel murders and conspired with Oglesby to escape from county jail. The trial evidence is bolstered by information from Tony Sims, who has admitted to being an accomplice in the 7-Eleven murder. Sims did not testify against Williams at trial, but he was later convicted of murder for his role in Albert Owens’ death. During his trial and subsequent parole hearings, Sims has repeatedly stated under oath that Williams was the shooter. Based on the cumulative weight of the evidence, there is no reason to second guess the jury’s decision of guilt or raise significant doubts or serious reservations about Williams’ convictions and death sentence. He murdered Albert Owens and Yen-I Yang, Yee-Chen Lin and Tsai-Shai Lin in cold blood in two separate incidents that were just weeks apart.

It is tragic that he is dead, but some things need to be straightened out. First, a moment of silence is in order for his victims. I do believe he is guilty. After almost 25 years and a ridiculous amount of appeals, if he were innocent, the authorities would have found out by now. Second, for all in the "Tookie is in heaven" crowd, repentance is a mostly Christian doctrine which requires one to admit the wrongfulness of his actions. Then and only then can forgiveness be received through JESUS CHRIST alone. Jesus says "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE, NO MAN cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6) "Tookie" Williams did not even admit he did the crimes. There is no repentance if there is no admittance of guilt. To all the folks who say "killing him won't bring his victims back," oh please. He had almost 25 more years than his victims. On the outside he probably would have been dead in 5-10 years. If Mr. Williams trusted Jesus as his Saviour, then and only then is he in Heaven.

Tookie Williams was convicted 24 years ago of the brutal slaying of four innocent human beings. He has now paid the penalty for that crime. Society has laws, and there are consequences for breaking those laws. When you're caught DUI you forfeit your right to drive on our streets. The Apology
Twenty-five years ago when I created the Crips youth gang with Raymond Lee Washington in South Central Los Angeles, I never imagined Crips membership would one day spread throughout California, would spread to much of the rest of the nation and to cities in South Africa, where Crips copycat gangs have formed. I also didn't expect the Crips to end up ruining the lives of so many young people, especially young black men who have hurt other young black men.
Raymond was murdered in 1979. But if he were here, I believe he would be as troubled as I am by the Crips legacy.

So today I apologize to you all -- the children of America and South Africa -- who must cope every day with dangerous street gangs. I no longer participate in the so-called gangster lifestyle, and I deeply regret that I ever did.

As a contribution to the struggle to end child-on-child brutality and black-on-black brutality, I have written the Tookie Speaks Out Against Gang Violence children's book series. My goal is to reach as many young minds as possible to warn you about the perils of a gang lifestyle.

I am no longer "dys-educated" (disease educated). I am no longer part of the problem. Thanks to the Almighty, I am no longer sleepwalking through life.

An appeal has been sent to the Supreme Court. If it is rejected an execution date can be set as early as this summer. An increasing movement continues to work to stay that order against his life and end the unjust application of the death penalty in American courts.

Greetings to all of you. My name is Stanley “Tookie” Williams. I have been residing here on San Quentin’s death row for over 24 years. Indeed, it is an honor to speak to this noteworthy audience today, not with a “holier than thou” sermon, but with a viable message that promotes transition and redemption.

Admittedly back in the day, I used to be my own worst enemy. Oft times, I engaged in personal battles of turmoil. I didn’t know that to restore order with any conflict, be it internal or external, it begins with me.

Being incarcerated, akin to a caged animal, I inevitably had to challenge my existence with this simple self-analysis: Am I a man or a beast? It wasn’t until I was in solitary confinement during 1988 to 1994 when I was able to answer that question.

Gradually, my transformation began to develop through the disciplines of serious soul searching, education, spiritual cultivation, edification and redemption. It was during that critical phase when I discovered my humanity.

Henceforth, I chose the path of inflexible resistance, meaning I refused to allow the animalistic prison conditions, anyone or anything to define who I am. That’s when I knew I was not a beast.

For over a decade, I have developed an understanding that I’ve written and I’m obligated to share with all of you. The legitimacy of war is not with man. The nemesis is the enemy within oneself.

To conquer this personal demon brings life. To be defeated by it evokes death. Those who shy away from this life-altering battle will remain locked in mere conflicts with other men that have no true purpose or spiritual worth.

If a man must fight, let it be to the death against the beast within himself. Win that battle, no man, no woman, no racial hatred, no system, no vindictiveness and no Machiavellianism can ever defeat you.

Today, and forever more, I can honestly say to all of you and to the world that the war within me is over. I’ve battled my demons and I was triumphant.

Without trying to sound preachy, each of you possess the innate ability to transcend these prison walls by virtue of your own positive message to your loved ones in society and/or in prison. Teach them how to avoid our destructive footsteps. Teach them to strive for higher education. Teach them to promote peace and teach them to focus on rebuilding the neighborhoods that you, others and I helped to destroy. As men of honor and integrity, it is our responsibilty to reach out.

In conclusion, may all of you achieve your goals and reclaim your freedom. Moreover, I want to thank Minister Louis Farrakhan and Mr. Roderick Hickman for making this opportunity possible.

did you know every book that he sold on average changed the life of 452 children. Since they claimed he received 150,000 e-mails from children, parents, and teachers saying that his book saved the lives of this many people. so if you look deep down at how many books he sold. you will notice his "Big Seller" which is the first book he wrote sold a amazing 330 copies. The second book he wrote sold a all time high of 2 single copies. so if you do 332 divided by 150,000 you will get 451.8 si it averages to 452 people per book.
