My Bit for Sister Rosa
I added a bit of (hopefully) clarifying information about the flexible nature of the colored section of buses in Montgomery this evening over at Wikipedia. It is a fact I recall vividly, but not quite as vividly as where I learned it.

I take it you're not implying that 'flexibilty' made segregation less wrong

Thanks for doing that--the sign on the bus was something I didn't know, and very illustrative of how very personally ugly this practice was.

I had an argument the other day with a black co-worker at least my age (45) who told me that in the end, it doesn't matter where on the bus you sit. Just get up and move, who cares. Oh my stars. Can people be that down-trodden in 2005? She finally had to agree with me when I said it was bad for white folks to be that ugly.

In responce to Laura. I think you should have also pointed out that if you are willing to be pushed out of your seat, what will you let someone push you out of next.
I was born in Montgomery Alabama in 1966. It could be bad to be in some areas.
I think that is why my family wanted to move away
