Taking Money From White People
P6 has a snarky report on Project 21's recent interview on C-SPAN.
He suggests that blacks are not led astray, hoodwinked or bamboozled by white liberal politics. That is putatively because political organizations like the NAACP are directed by blacks. So he finds it credible when Mfume suggests that Project 21 is a make believe black organization. Why? Because it takes money from white people.
I'm really not in the mood to return snark for snark. But I wonder how it is that any black people could possibly be possesed of their own minds if they are willing to accept assistance from whites. I wonder if Kwesi knows whether or not the pipes that bring water into his house were laid by blacks or whites. Because if he has been drinking white water for all of these years, I don't know that we can trust his opinion, as a black man.
By the way, wasn't there some white guy who went by the name of Springarn? I heard he had something to do with the NAACP. No maybe my memory is bad. Maybe it was Moskowitz or something like that. Nah. Couldn't be.

Blink.
Like Ward Connelly got assistance from the former gov. of California in Connelly's business dealings and his regent position?
Like Justice Thomas got assistance from the white nuns at the religious school he attended?
Like Black businesses taking loans from the S.B.A.?

I suppose that I am falling into one of the traps of Right activists. I overemploy irony in situations where people are genuinely clueless. No more irony, I promise.
The NAACP is the pot calling the kettle black. All of their founding money was white and was run by whites for many years at its inception. Its highest award is named after one of its white founders one of whom is pictured with this post.
As for Dara at USC, if P6 didn't agree with her viewpoint or find it enlightening, he had ample opportunity to say so and did not. Tough crowd.

Irony is cool. I like to use it a lot myself. That one missed the mark.
The NAACP is the pot calling the kettle black
Agreed.

Damnit! Late for class again. Can we back up a sec? What did I miss? Are we actually saying that the NAACP is illegitimate as a respresentative force for racial equality because they take $$ from whitey??
I don't get it. Somebody please lead the remedial class.

Oh, and Cobb, whatever happened to your thing about it doesn't matter so much how you got to the right place, so long as you get there?
Posted by: memer at September 2, 2004 06:16 PM
No I am saying that people who complain that white republicans are spending money to attract black folks and funding organizations for black folks are racist hypocrites.

I know Ward Connerly and that is untrue. A few months ago an editor I worked with so much as said the same thing and worse. I contacted Ward so he could set the record straight with her (a white woman AND liberal), which he did. It's very presumptuous and sad for black folks to think other black folks can't make it without white patronization. I think I'd rather be a fish.
I plan on striking out on my own soon, and I'll not apply nor accept one dime of government money.

Ummmm....
LB?
I heard him say this on television and radio.
Out of his mouth, LB.
Out of his mouth, when he was "called out" for building his business by going for affirmative action contracts, he said it was fine. A relative who helped fund the business said the same.
Out of his mouth, he said it is fine to accept patronage positions based on race.
This came out of his mouth. I saw it. I heard it. The point from a relative, I read in a long article on him.
