Out Blacked

I haven't been counting noses, and I haven't watched one minute of either convention on television. But it has come to my attention that both Rod Paige and Michael Steele spoke tonight. Has the RNC out-blacked the DNC? Just asking.

Cobb has two interesting posts. The first is Out Blacked and the second is Schlafly & Dobson. About his post "Out Blacked" all I can say is, "I always like to call a spade a spade". I don't know what it means but, man, it sounds cool. Cobb... [Read More]

In a word, 'no'.

I've met Michael Steele and find him to be a savvy politician. There's some logic to his reasoning Af-Ams need to be active in both major parties in order for our voices to maintain their effectiveness.

But it's also apparent the GOP's only concerned with the aesthetics, which seems to me just as racist as ignoring Af-Ams altogether. Until the party installs persons like Steele into positions of authority (i.e.; 'whip' positions in Congress, chairpersons of national committees/campaigns, etc.), they're playing catch up.

Take a Richard Parsons (please) and put him as the head of the RNC and then maybe we're talking.

Isn't Colin Powell in a position of power ?

And were were the blacks who were considered for Kerry's VP ?

Were were the blacks in Clintons White house ?

Are you paying attention ?

Juliette, many of us have noticed the same thing about the GOP's efforts at diversity. Is this some kind of right-wing affirmative action?

Please read this American Prospect Online article about Paige's appearance at the convention last night:http://www.prospect.org/web/page.ww?section=root&name=ViewWeb&articleId=8440

Let's forget for the moment TAP's blatant grandstanding on the controversy of NCLB. I find it difficult to believe that Rod Paige has done anything more or less then Henry Cisneros or Hazel O'Leary. Then again how interesting can the job of Secretary of Education be? Evidently not enough for anyone to bother bringing an substantial praise or criticism of the Secretary himself.

Prove to me that he's stooge. Show me how his agency's budget is historically low. Exemplify his bureacratic mismanagement and ineffectiveness. But don't play like the man is invisible except for today at the convention. This is a pure insult. I don't see why you don't just insinuate that he's on the payroll of Halliburton too.

"out-Blacked"?

That would depend on whether you judge by spokesmen or actual members, I suppose.

I don't believe they were out-Blacked if you count non-prime time speeches.

Paige talks a very good game, but what happened in Texas was questioned during Bush's first run and now it appears that the "cat is out of the bag" concerning how the "achievement" really happened.

I don't consider the man to be a stooge. I just consider the Department of Education to be a major waste.

And I'll say again, NCLB is a re-tread of Goals 2000.

Could you elaborate on that in ways that give us some insight to the policy implications? There's got to be something specific below the rhetoric that we can grab on to.

Are the conventions out on DVD yet? I'll watch them when they hit the $5.50 bin at Walmart.

Cobb's implying that Blacks at the RNC means policy changes are about to erupt in their favour (if only they were re-elected). Uh-huh. Care to elaborate on that?

In the meantime, Wonkette has a few yuks about this.
