Still An Outsider
Without making any assumptions about the political predilections of the heads mentioned, I noticed that I am still unnoticed by the NYC chatting class as represented by Gawker.
For some reason, this bothers me.

Hi Mike,
I looked over your list, and the thing these folks have in common is full-time employment at a professional (mostly major print) news organization. There are a lot more people who could be on that list -- most of the roster of full members of the National Association of Black Journalists, for example -- before you get to bloggers. (Since I'm a journalism teacher and magazine freelancer, I only qualify for associate membership in NABJ, by the way.) It's more status than politics -- Wonkette is all about A-list, know what I'm saying?

I know (sob) b-b-but it still hurts.
Seriously, I wouldn't have the time to be a talking head, and nobody could pay me enough considering what I do to pay myself. The fact of the matter is that I will probably, over the next year, spend relatively less time blogging and more time in actual creation of the next medium. That is if I follow through.
What concerns me is that my end of the conversation is kept up. When I ceased being Boohab, I felt it was OK because there was always Huey Freeman... Greg Tate should have been on TV for 10 years now. But who the hell is Gawker? There just doesn't seem to be enough bandwidth for folks like us.
