MT at the Crossroads
Movable Type announced the availability and pricing of their newest edition, MT version 3. I say HA!.
The fact of the matter is that 100 bucks isn't much to ask considering what you get. On the other hand, there isn't really anything wrong with the version I have except for its vulnerability to spam. But now that I upgraded to the latest version of MT-Blacklist, spam hasn't been a problem.
Although I'm fairly sure that I qualify for the free version, I don't see any features worth upgrading to right now.

If you're going to upgrade to anything, upgrade to WordPress. It loads much faster, it uses much less storage space, it doesn't require lengthy rebuilds, and it's free.
Movable Type is so three days ago.

Wordpress seems to be the alternative of note. BUT. I just got a call from a customer today who just upgraded his software (he's a bean counter who thinks he can program) for no good reason. Money for me, headaches for him.
I don't see a good reason to upgrade, although for the marginal purpose of having my Palm get an RSS rendering of my blog for remote viewing, I might consider something. Still, I need to see an entire blog, trackbacks and comments upgraded from MT to WordPress that retains the same look and feel before I even think about it.

Insults Unpunished is a pretty good example of that. The only difference I've noticed is that the comments and trackbacks appear together, which is a bit annoying. On the flip side, having a comment RSS is tres cool.
