I think the consensus is that he was fored more for his criticism of Eisner and Disney than his anti-Semitic remarks. A journalist being fired for criticising the mega-corporate owner of his outlet is arguably more outrageous.

Walter - I've heard/read that a bit as well. I think it's all bad, all around. It's one thing if your company disagrees with something you have to say and feels it is being wrongly portrayed - perhaps he deserves to be fired for his comments - but when it seems to be about comments he made about the establishment he works for? while it's not ideal for Eisner & Company, they need to suck it up.

I know that people have been fired from Disney for less. The rumors about 'mousewitz' are true. This is one of those companies that actually believes in creative friction - ie if you're better at being ruthless then you're a better manager. If I remember correctly, it's relatively decentralized with about 17 senior executive vice presidents who are all trying to be eisner running their kingdoms with iron hands. I've met a lot of IT people running out of there screaming with their hands on their heads and virtual blood coming out of their ears. The whole place is a spaghetti factory. They'll be implementing SAP for the next 5 years - I think PWC/IBM has the contract. The place is too big to be managed.
