Head. Wall. Bang.

At this moment I feel as though I have to turn my whole blog into a diatribe about Black Republicans. It would be the only thing that would generate enough gravity to get people who appear to be so conflicted and confused to start recognizing that it's not suicide.

Take the following from Blunted on Reality:

Like I said, the concern is not that blacks will start voting Republican. All the J.C. Watts, Clarernce Thomases and Ward Connerlys in the world cannot convince the black electorate to join in the beliefs of Newt Gingrich, Strom Thurmond and George W. Bush... but enough indifference might convince them that the Democratic party isn't worth their time, effort, or vote either.

I am crouched in the middle of the street in Manhattan. I stand slowly, raise my hands to the sky and scream. My voice echoes supernaturally and the camera zooms backward so the entire city is visible. AAAAARRGHHH!

What kills me is that if Denzel Washington declared himself a Republican tomorrow, you'd get millions of blackfolks out of the closet and idiotic neutrality. Oh well.

P6 is right that black is the noun and Republican is the adjective, not the other way around. Republican is synonymous with effective and Democrat is its antonym.

I don't consider it suicide, I think of it as akin to riding a motorcycle sans a helmet... for now.

We have at least a generation to go before I'll think of it any differently... especially with the extreme path that many in the Republican party are taking. You're a moderate Republican, and you have common sense (not that I'm the judge of common sense, just giving you my observation from reading your site)... I like that. Unlike so many other black conservatives, you do concern yourself with issues that many would just cast off as "excuses". You talk about DWB and police brutality on your site. I like that. I like your blog. I like the fact that you actually use the trackback feature. You're cool peoples :-)

I think that I'll be much more accepting of conservatives when their mouthpieces aren't the likes of Sean Hannity, Clarence Thomas, Ann Coulter, or Bill O'Reilly. I'll be more accepting of most conservatives when they actually understand that the "Civil Rights Movement" is NOT over... there isn't this so-called "equal playing field", and like it or not, racism and white privilege do exist. I'll appreciate conservatives more when they actually take steps to combat these things, and not just as a surface-level gesture.

I'm all for being fiscally conservative (which no matter how many tax cuts they pass, the Bush Admin is NOT), but "socially conservative" has become a nickname for racist & sexist in many circles. Until that changes, I will NOT accept that the Republican route is a viable path for anyone who is oppressed in this country... that goes for race, sex, sexual preference, and economic status.

Thanks for reading my blog.

Peace,
Sam

Yes I am a moderate Republican, and what the Republicans have done and continue to do to become the majority party is shameless. The very fact that Arnold as a complete outsider is running thing in California (he is, face it) shows how wack Republican leadership is, playing themselves off the same old same old.

Read my worst-case scenario about racists and republicans. I think you'll see why I don't think we can wait a generation. If not us, then who? If not now, then when?

Many thanks for the compliments.
